About AMI

Robert M. Glassberg, M.D.,
President and CEO

Atlantic Medical Imaging (AMI) is a full service, outpatient imaging practice operating 7 offices throughout New Jersey and providing professional services to 3 area hospitals. Since 1964, AMI’s goal has been to provide the most advanced diagnostic imaging services to our patients and referring physicians. Our board-certified physicians have been educated and trained at some of the most prestigious universities and medical centers in the country including such respected institutions as Yale, Stanford, Duke and Johns Hopkins.

With 30 board-certified, sub-specialty trained radiologists and a staff of 350 technical, clerical and administrative personnel, AMI is committed to providing patients with unsurpassed service and care and will ensure that their visit is comfortable and relaxing. From the moment a patient walks through our doors, they will be greeted by a patient concierge who will ensure that they have timely and caring service. The complete satisfaction of patients and their referring physicians is essential. AMI offers a full spectrum of diagnostic imaging services including CT, Coronary CTA, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, Digital and Conventional Mammography, Ultrasound, DEXA, General Radiology and Fluoroscopy, and Interventional Radiology.

Our state-of-the-art technology is constantly updated to ensure we offer today’s most advanced and accurate technology and techniques. AMI was one of the first diagnostic imaging centers in the country to install GE’s 64 -slice LightSpeed Volume CT scanner, the most technologically advanced CT scanner available on the market today. The 64-slice CT scanner can produce extremely high-quality images at sub millimeter resolution in only a few seconds. Since 2001, Atlantic Medical Imaging has been performing Coronary CT Angiography (CTA) and has performed more than 9,000 exams to date. Utilizing the 64-slice CT scanner, we are able to scan the entire heart within 5 heartbeats and produce 3-D, 360 degree images of the coronary arteries; the place where heart attacks originate. The AMI office in Galloway is a GE Healthcare Showsite and a Coronary CTA training center for physicians and technologists. Under the direction of Dr. David Dowe , AMI offers year-long Coronary CTA Visiting Fellowship programs, Master Series courses, CME courses, DVDs and Videos and has provided instructional training to thousands of physicians and technologists worldwide.

Our Somers Point, Galloway and Wall Township offices offer a dedicated women’s imaging wing with separate waiting facilities, offering greater convenience and privacy. We are also very proud to have been one of the first radiology practices in the State of New Jersey to incorporate computer-aided diagnosis into the reading of screening mammography with the acquisition of the R2 Image Checker. This device is the one and only FDA approved computer that assists the radiologist in the interpretation of mammography. Research has demonstrated that when the radiologist and the R2 work together in the reading process, not only is accuracy significantly improved, the sensitivity for detection of cancer is higher than can be achieved by either a radiologist or a computer alone. All screening mammograms from the six offices of Atlantic Medical Imaging are transported to a central reading site for interpretation by a board- certified radiologist assisted by the R2 computer. Atlantic Medical Imaging has expanded its Women’s Imaging services and now offers Digital Mammography in our Somers Point and Wall Township offices. In addition, since most breast biopsies can be performed without a trip to the operating room, at AMI’s Somers Point office, our radiologists perform minimally invasive breast biopsies using either ultrasound or mammographic guidance.

AMI was the first facility in South Jersey to provide dedicated full ring PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanning. This has now been replaced with a combination PET/CT machine that does both studies simultaneously. PET/CT, an innovative exam and one of the most important imaging tests to fight the war against cancer, couples the functional information from a PET exam with the anatomical information from a CT scan into a single exam. The individual scans are taken simultaneously and presented as a single overlapping image; providing more accurate information to diagnose a patient’s condition.

In 2004, AMI opened a 20,000 square foot facility in Galloway Township . This facility contains the only 3T high-field MRI machine in the region. In addition, we have the newest multi-slice CT scanner capable of performing all examinations faster and better. All of our other normal services are available. This office holds our comprehensive cardiovascular center and offers services not available outside of academic centers. A fully equipped interventional suite is also present so that all outpatient interventional procedures are available in a much more comfortable setting. With this office, we demonstrate our continued pursuit of excellence in medical imaging.

In 2005, AMI expanded into the Monmouth County area and opened its newest facility in Wall Township , NJ . This new facility is truly state of the art and contains the latest and most advanced imaging technology available anywhere.
