Live Case Visiting Fellowships

Satisfy the ACR’s 3 year credentialing criteria and the ACC’s Level 2 credentialing criteria for both CME and case experience in a single five day course.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and discuss proper patient selection.
  • Discuss proper patient preparation.
  • Distinguish the differences in technique between 16 and 64 slice Coronary CTA (CCTA).
  • Analyze and differentiate CCTA techniques when dealing with arrythmias, COPD and the morbidly obese.
  • Identify the potential problems that can affect spatial and temporal resolution.
  • Illustrate how to create MPR, MIP and 3-D rendered images.
  • Depict the four triage protocols.
  • Identify what information must be included in a CCTA report.

Teaching Method

The teaching method for this educational activity will be lectures, case study discussions and workstation demonstrations.

Live Case Visiting Fellowships

Visiting fellowships consist of daily one hour lectures, live case demonstrations and progressing to workstation reconstruction. This is ideal for the Master Series Course graduates seeking a higher confidence level but not beyond the learning capabilities of a beginner.

The Live Case Visiting Fellowship course features:

  • Coronary CTA Technique - including Prospectively Gated Coronary CTA - the lowest radiation dose technique in the world.
  • Post-Processing and Interpretation - live cases daily - all patients given results with the visiting fellow present.  Additional teaching file cases available.
  • Business Development - discuss how to create a business plan and market your Coronary CTA program.

Students will be trained to use both 16 and 64 slice MDCT technology, but live cases will be conducted on only the 64 slice scanner.

Dr. Dowe uses GE Healthcare’s 64 slice Volume CT and the Advantage Windows Workstation version 4.3.

Typical Day

A typical day will start promptly at 7:15 am and end at approximately 3:30 pm with a morning lecture from 7:15 am - 8:00 am . Live cases will be scheduled preferentially in the morning. Cases will be immediately reconstructed by Dr. Dowe and patients will be given their results with the visiting fellow present. As the week progresses the fellow will begin setting up the protocol for patients and will eventually process these cases on an independent workstation. Those findings are evaluated and compared to Dr. Dowe’s reconstruction. Independent study time and teaching file evaluation will be in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided.
