What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology is a branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats medical conditions using tiny, miniaturized tools while watching their progress on x-ray or other imaging equipment. Typically, these minimally invasive procedures are performed through a very small nick in the skin about the size of a pencil. These Interventional Radiology procedures are generally much easier for the patient than surgery because they involve no surgical incisions, result in less pain, and require shorter hospital stays. Many procedures can be done as an outpatient requiring no hospitalization.
An Interventional Radiologist is a Physician who specializes in these minimally invasive procedures performed using imaging guidance.
