Mammography Preparations

No creams, powders or deodorants should be applied to your breasts or underarm areas prior to a mammogram. Tiny particles, which cannot be seen by the eye, can causes artifacts on the mammographic film.

The American College of Radiology recomend’s that women age 35 have a baseline mammogram, then begin screening at age 40. It is very important to obtain any prior mammograms before your arrival. The only exception is if your prior mammogram was performed by Atlantic Medical Imaging, in which case the films should already be available.

When you call to schedule the appointment please let the scheduler know if you have any specific breast complaints, such as pain or a lump. You will need to see your doctor prior to having the mammogram if you have any specific complaints.

Please let the scheduler’s know if you have breast implants or if you are physically challenged.
