MRI Safety Statement from Atlantic Medical Imaging

At Atlantic Medical Imaging, your safety is our highest priority.

Following recent national news coverage about a tragic MRI-related incident, we want to reassure our patients that we strictly follow the most current American College of Radiology (ACR) MRI safety guidelines.

Every individual entering our MRI environment is carefully screened for metallic objects, implants, and other safety risks. Our staff is extensively trained to prevent hazards associated with MRI’s powerful magnetic fields, and we maintain controlled access protocols at all times.

How We Ensure Safe MRI Screening

We follow a multilayered safety protocol to protect every patient:

  • All patients and accompanying individuals are screened using ACR-recommended forms and interviews to identify implants, medical devices, prior surgeries, or possible metal exposure.
  • Only trained MRI personnel are authorized to supervise screening and access to the MRI suite.
  • All patients are required to change and remove items such as jewelry, hairpins, watches, etc, and to lock up these personal belongings. Changing clothes is mandatory as many clothing materials can heat up and cause burns during an MRI scan.
  • Patients with implants or devices (e.g., pacemakers, spinal stimulators, surgical clips) are evaluated based on detailed device labeling, manufacturer information, and field strength compatibility before scheduling an exam.
  • Final clearance for all questionable cases is reviewed by our radiologists and MRI medical team before proceeding.

These precautions are designed to ensure a safe, controlled MRI experience for every patient without compromise.

We are committed to providing advanced imaging in a setting that is not only effective but safe.

If you have any questions about MRI safety or our screening process, please don’t hesitate to ask.
