New Jersey CT Scan
A Quick & Noninvasive Imaging Test
Computerized Tomography, often referred to as CT scan or CAT scan, is a standard in imaging technology. This test can create images of the body’s inner structures, including bones, muscle and organs. The procedure only takes a few minutes and uses minimal amounts of radiation.

Atlantic Medical Imaging is the first radiology practice in the area to offer low dose CT scanning at all of our CT scan outpatient facilities. This state-of-the-art technology reduces radiation exposure by 50 to 75% compared to traditional CT scanning without losing any image quality.
What to Expect During Your Exam
In a CT scan, you lie face up on a table that slides in and out of the scanner. The scanner will rotate around your body and take pictures that are sent to a computer. The table may move around several times during the procedure so that the scanner can take pictures from different angles.
CT scans serve many purposes and can be used to detect:
- Tumors
- Calcium in arteries
- Organ damage
- Damage from a stroke
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Bone and tissue damage
- Herniated disc
- Spinal stenosis
When compared to an MRI, CT scans are both quicker and cheaper. The images are not quite as comprehensive as those created by an MRI, but CT scans are still sufficient for most imaging purposes. Because they can be done in only a few minutes, they are also valuable in emergency situations.
Low dose CT scanners are available at nine AMI locations in Ocean, Monmouth, Atlantic, and Cape May Counties. Call (833) 823-6533 for more information.
